Nachoem M. Wijnberg
Nachoem M. Wijnberg
Translated from Dutch by David Colmer
Nachoem M. Wijnberg, translated by David Colmer, presents the poet almost as an argument for his own singularity: the title is simply the name, as though the book were asking readers to meet the voice directly. Wijnberg’s poems can feel like fables stripped of their expected morals, or philosophical miniatures pretending to be casual speech. That is part of their charm. They do not seem desperate to seduce the reader, yet they keep producing small traps of thought. I would read this volume as a concentrated introduction to a poet who understands how clarity and strangeness can occupy the same room. Colmer’s translations help preserve the odd poise of that intelligence.
