For the Shrew
Anna Glazova
Translated from Russian by Alex Niemi
For the Shrew by Anna Glazova, translated from Russian by Alex Niemi and published by Zephyr Press, is a book rooted in Russia. Glazova’s For the Shrew, translated by Alex Niemi, has a title that immediately feels creaturely, sharp, and intimate. A shrew is small, quick, often overlooked, but not harmless in the imagination. As contemporary Russian poetry from Zephyr Press, the book likely welcomes readers into a compressed and intelligent lyric world where animal presence opens onto vulnerability and perception. I would read it for small ferocities, nervous movement, and the poem’s ability to honor what scurries at the edge of attention.
