Eros, Unbroken
Annie Kim
Translated from Croatian by Andrea Jurjevic
Eros, Unbroken, by Annie Kim, is a Croatian poetry collection from Croatia, translated from Croatian by Andrea Jurjevic, published by Word Works, The in 2020. It is a Croatian collection by Annie Kim, translated by Andrea Jurjević, that makes eros a force of continuity rather than a simple subject. The title is almost defiant: desire may be damaged, displaced, or tested, but it is not snapped cleanly in two. I would not approach it as a book that needs to be solved before it can begin working. Start with the title, the pressure of the translated line, and the feeling of a voice making room for itself in English. The value here is not just metadata or representation. It is the chance to let a particular book create its own weather, its own difficulty, and its own way of asking the reader to listen.
