Collected Poems: Lucebert
Lucebert
Translated from Dutch by Diane Butterman
Collected Poems: Lucebert, translated from the Dutch by Diane Butterman, brings Lucebert's Dutch-language work into English through Green Integer. Published in 2010, it is best approached as collected poems of encounter rather than as a book to solve. Lucebert’s collected work gives the reader not a single mood but an artistic weather front, by turns abrasive, funny, visionary, and socially alert. What I want from a translated poetry library is not only coverage, but temperament: the chance to meet a mind arranging the world differently. This volume does that work. It gives the reader enough ground to enter, then enough strangeness to keep the encounter from becoming merely informational.
